Ashwagandha: for good mental balance  |  Magnesium: activates energy  |  Choline: precursor of acetylcholine that drives muscles  |  L-glycine: saves choline  |  L-theanine: derived from green tea  |  Other ingredients  |  How do I use Zen Moment?

Many people experience great (work) pressure and additional stress. As a result, they are too much in their heads and not enough connected with their bodies. NoordCode Zen Moment is specially designed to help you to calm your mind, support you when you are stressed and seek good mental balance and normal energy levels.

Zen Moment is a formula of adaptogenic herbs, minerals and amino acids that, when your life is stressful, help you get back to yourself. In this blog, you will read why we chose exactly these ingredients in NoordCode Zen Moment and how they individually and together contribute to stress reduction.

We opted for a powder that dissolves in water, because this way we could dose the ingredients higher. After all, in a capsule you have limited space. With the natural flavors of citrus, orange and banana, we hope Zen Moment will give you a "zen" experience.

As NoordCode, we go for the best products we can find and stand for transparency about the composition of our formulas. Our choices are inspired by scientific insights. This blog is for anyone who wants to know more about the Zen Moment formula.

Ashwagandha: for good mental balance

Ashwagandha, also known as Withania somnifera, is a traditional Ayurvedic herb with adaptogenic effects†. Adaptogens are substances that help you find balance. The word 'Adaptogen' says it all; it comes from 'adaptation' - meaning to adjust. An adaptogen makes your body adapt to a changed situation, such as fatigue or stress†. They support calmness in times of stress and more focus when you are tired. This makes Ashwagandha a great supplement for someone with a busy life. Ashwagandha helps with:

  • a natural, healthy sleep
  • a positive state of mind
  • a good mental balance during stressful situations
  • more energy
  • a good memory

High quality Ashwagandha extract

For Zen Moment, we deliberately chose KSM-66 Ashwagandha®, a patented Ashwagandha extract that has won many awards given its quality. This extract is produced using a unique, environmentally friendly, water-based extraction process that preserves the natural balance of the active ingredients.

KSM-66 Ashwagandha® uses only the roots of the Ashwagandha plant, not leaves. Many producers choose to include leaves in their extract because it is a cheaper raw material. According to science, the health-promoting effects of Ashwagandha are mainly due to the roots, which have a much higher content of active ingredients than the leaves. KSM-66 Ashwagandha® has been clinically studied and its effectiveness has been substantiated by scientific studies.

Magnesium: activates energy

The second ingredient we chose is magnesium. This is also called the master mineral because of its many uses. As many as hundreds of processes in your body need it. Among other things, magnesium allows nutrients in your body to be converted into energy. In fact, it activates the body's natural energy. In addition, it is good for your mood. Finally, magnesium helps reduce fatigue and contributes to a clear mind.

Many people get little magnesium through their diet. You will not solve a chronic magnesium deficiency with a supplemental dose of 200 mg. Taking a higher dose of magnesium therefore often gives a positive effect faster. There is also a relationship between stress and magnesium loss, and lower magnesium levels and stress. This vicious circle makes magnesium the supplement to support stress during exciting times. For us, the reason to put 400 mg of magnesium in the formula of Zen Moment.

Bioavailable magnesium compounds

There is no such thing as one magnesium. Magnesium supplements come in different compounds, each playing its own unique role in our bodies. We chose magnesium citrate and malate for Zen Moment.

Magnesium citrate is one of the most widely used compounds of magnesium in supplements. It is superior in terms of absorption, both short-term and long-term compared to many other magnesium types used.

In addition to magnesium citrate, magnesium malate is also a highly absorbable form. The positive aspect of magnesium malate is that it is slowly absorbed. Therefore, it does not have a laxative effect. Magnesium malate is additionally effective for energy metabolism and best supports against fatigue. You can therefore take magnesium malate both in the morning for energy and in the evening for relaxation.

Citrate and malate are both intermediates in energy production.

Since Zen Moment is a drink, we have also considered the taste of the ingredients. Magnesium citrate and malate are both suitable for higher dosing without affecting the taste.

In summary, magnesium:

  • is good for the state of mind
  • supports mental balance in stressful situations
  • activates the natural energy in your body
  • helps with fatigue
  • contributes to a clear mind

Choline: precursor of acetylcholine that drives muscles

Choline is an essential nutrient that is difficult to place in a category of nutrients. It most closely resembles an amino acid and is found in various forms in foods. Choline is found in high concentration in the egg yolk. Just one egg will give you about 129 mg of choline. Choline as a supplement comes in different forms.

Fully usable choline forms

For Zen Moment, we used both phosphatidylcholine and choline bitartrate. Phosphatidylcholine is found in food, which is why your body recognizes it best. However, phosphatidylcholine is a fairly new form of choline on the supplement market. We have therefore supplemented it with choline bitartrate, a choline salt on which most scientific research has been done. Therefore, the health benefits of choline are mainly attributable to choline salts.

Also, choline bitartrate can be fully utilized by the body as pure choline, and is therefore the correct form for proper functioning of Zen Moment.

Choline supports multiple functions in the body. For example, the body uses choline as a raw material for various phospholipids (fats) and for the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Nerves in contact with muscles use acetylcholine to transmit signals. Thus, this neurotransmitter controls muscles.

Unfortunately, because of European regulations, we are no longer allowed to make statements about the effect of this ingredient.

L-glycine: saves choline

The body can make several things from choline, including the amino acid L-glycine. The image below shows at a glance how the relationship between choline and L-glycine works in your brain. By taking some extra L-glycine, your body does not have to make it itself and you "save" choline. Your body then uses that choline for other (more useful) things.

Apart from choline, L-glycine also has useful properties as a non-essential amino acid. It is an important part of collagen protein and functions as a signaling substance in the brain. You get glycine with a glycine supplement, a collagen powder or eating collagen-rich foods such as bone broth, gelatin and the skin of fish or chicken.

Glycine itself, like choline, has several benefits. Precisely because of its specific effects and supported research, we have chosen Glycine as the main ingredient of this formula. European regulations around advertising prohibit health claims so we are not allowed to mention any benefits here either.

L-theanine: derived from green tea

L-theanine is an amino acid commonly found in green tea, for which it is also named. L-theanine is a popular substance whose benefits also fit very well within the Zen Moment formula. Although scientific research has been done on the possible benefits of L-theanine, again, due to European guidelines, we are not allowed to include positive health effects about this ingredient.

Other ingredients

We flavored Zen Moment with lemon juice, organic banana powder and orange, all from freeze-dried fruit. It is sweetened with organic erythritol, to mask the somewhat bitter taste of Ashwagandha. This is a European approved sweetener that does not affect blood sugar levels.
